“It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.”

I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. I thought it would be the classic tale of girl meets angel, girl saves sister, falls in love, zoom in to happy ever after. Well, I was wrong. Very, very much so.
Susan Ee is a terrific storyteller and her imagination seems to know no bounds. I guarantee you will not see any of the twists and turns of the plot coming, not by a long shot. The writing is great, engaging and riveting.
I loved Penryn’s character, she’s such a strong female lead, exactly how I like’em and she’s very, very funny. Not knowing anything about angels, she keeps assuming things about how they are, what they do and it is absolutely hilarious.
Raffe was awesome too, different from your run-of-the-mill male character. He’s bossy but not arrogant, funny but not annoying.
The pace of the story is smooth, you have time to get attached to the characters, yet it’s never boring, never stagnant.
I cannot wait to read the next one! Hear me, Ee? Finish writing it, dammit!
Yeah, it was THAT awesome!
